For Requirement 5 Part 1 - Please see the tab titled "Variances. I have mapped out each formula for you and you just have to plug in the figures, then use these to determine the variance for each. Please also reference E10-6 for more help with this. As noted on that sheet, the net of your Materials Price and Materials Quantity Variance should equal your total Materials Spending Variance (which is actual qty X cost - Standard qty X cost). Use this to cross check yourself. Also, the net of your Labor Rate and Efficiency Variances should equal your total DL Spending Variance. To solve for the TOTAL Manufacturing Overhead, you have to go to the section that lists the ACTUAL costs and pick out the costs that are MOH costs. You then compare these to the APPLIED MOH, which the problem states was applied based on DL hours. (Note: It is applied based on STANDARD DL hours, not actual). Part 2 - There is no right or wrong answer, once your answer is supported by the calculations you provided. We went over some possible scenarios that could explan these variancs in our class.
