For the months between January and April JHB Incorporatedhas been employed to carry out a large- scale construction project in Ballito, Durban. The construction company has been hired to build a new shopping centre and parking garage, which is scheduled to open by July of this year. An abandoned and dilapidated housing complex exists on the plot on which the shopping centre is to be built. For this reason, one of the first activities the JHB Incorporated workers will be to demolish the existing building structure. The demolition work on the housing complex began on 11 January, using a crane and wrecking ball.

On 13 January, Mr Robert van Zijl (a Ballito resident living relatively near to the construction site) decided to visit the construction site, as he was interested in witnessing the demolition work being done. At first he remained off the property; however, when he realised his view of the demolition would be obscured by the demolition crane, he ventured onto the actual construction site. At 09:25am, as Mr van Zijl was making his way closer to the demolition site, a sizeable chunk of the housing complex was dislodged by the wrecking ball, and knocked him to the ground trapping his right leg.

His cries for help alerted Mr Botha (the owner of JHB Incorporated) to his situation. When Mr Botha, Ms Mbali Dube (his health and safety advisor) and Mr Daniels (the supervisor for the demolition) found him, they established that Mrvan Zijl's right leg hadbeen broken by the debris underwhich it was trapped.

Mr Botha immediately called emergency services to get him the medical attention he needed. Once the ambulance arrived and Mr van Zijl was firmly in the care of healthcare professionals, Mr Botha gave him his business card and told Mr van Zijl to contact him as soon as he is able in order for them to deal with the accident that just took place. After receiving the necessary medical attention, Mr van Zijl returned to his Manor Estate residence in Umhlali.

The contact details of Mr Botha (as they appear on his business card) are given below:
