For this devotional discussion, please read Malachi 1:2-14 and the accompanying study note: the Law of Connection: Malachi Touches the Heart First on page 1119 in the Maxwell Leadership Bible (Maxwell & Elmore, 2014).

In this particular passage, we note that God first conveys His love and acceptance for His people before addressing their needs for improvement. In the study note, Maxwell reiterates the need for balance between affirmation and admonition.

Much of our work in maintaining organizational effectiveness is focused on continuous improvement (correction). However, we must not lose sight of the need for affirmation as well. Can you think of an example of a leader who successful\y makes this connection between encouragement and correction? How does this impact the effectiveness of others, individually as well as organizationally?
