Whether you continue with a project you've been working on in past weeks or choose a new one, provide a brief description of the project and articulate why you believe it's a good fit for the Waterfall method.

2: Use the Waterfall Method to identify key phases of your chosen project

Break your project goal down into distinct, manageable phases. Each phase represents a significant milestone in the project. Document at least five high-level phases, each serving as separate headings in your document. The phases should present a linear progression from project initiation to completion, characteristic of the Waterfall method.

3: Define the core objectives for each phase in the project lifecycle

Under each phase heading, justify its need by addressing the questions below:

• What will be achieved in each phase (the objectives and goals)? Why are these objectives/goals necessary?
• What tasks will likely need to be completed during each phase?
• What constraints will need to be considered?
• How will the project team achieve the objective(s)? Who will be the owner of the tasks in each phase?
• What are the key deliverables at the end of each phase? What specific criteria must be met before moving onto the next phase?
• How does the output of each phase serve as the input to the next one?

4: Make a copy of the Gantt Chart

5: Add specific details about each phase into your Gantt chart

Each phase should include at least three tasks, along with relevant details about each task, including:

• Task owner(s)
• Task start and end dates
• Duration (days)
• Task dependencies

How to complete the template:

In a Gantt chart, dependencies refer to the relationship between different tasks. They show which tasks depend on others to be completed before they can begin or end. For example, in a software development project, you can't start coding (task B) until you've completed the design phase (task A). Here, task B is dependent on task A, and we'd call task A a "predecessor" to task B.

There are several ways you can represent dependencies in a Gantt chart, but one common method is through the use of color-coding and arrows. Color-coding tasks that are linked can quickly show which tasks are related. For instance, you might color all tasks that are part of the same dependency chain the same color. This way, you can easily see at a glance which tasks need to be completed before others can start.
