For this task you must find a community group that you can work with to research community priorities as well as participate in some work relating to the group.
There must be at least three individuals in the community group that you can interact with.
You must be able to engage with the community group on at least three occasions
Occasion 1 - Research the priorities of the community group Occasion 2 - Participate in work Occasion 3 - Review the work done during Occasion 2.
The community group may be:
A community group that you are already involved in, for example you may be a member of a specific cultural group, church group, CFA, local neighbourhood house, etc, or you may already have employment with a relevant organisation. A community group that you are interested in The community services organisation that you worked with for your assessment for the unit CHCPRP001 - Develop and maintain networks and collaborative partnershipso Note that the organisation will need to have a community development focus for this option to be appropriate.
If you have any problems locating a suitable community group talk to your teacher to obtain advice.
When negotiating with a community group to complete this assessment you must explain that you are a student of Bendigo Kangan Institute and fully explain the purpose and requirements of the assessment.
2. Students may work together with a specific community;however the assessment each student hands in must be their own work. So although students may collaborate with each other, attend the same meetings, and support the same activities, each student must complete their report in their own words, and reflect their own perspectives.
3. You must respect the privacy of individuals in this assessment. Do not include any resources or information that will identify people unless you have their written permission to do so. Do not refer to people by name - instead use initials or Person 1, Person 2 etc if you need to refer to an individual.
4. Throughout this whole assessment process, you are representing the Bendigo Kangan Institute. You must do this in a professional and positive manner.
Part A: Research priorities of a specific community group
Once you have negotiated with a community group to work with them, you should organise to meet with at least one member of the group (remember overall you will need to engage with at least three different individuals).
The purpose of this meeting is to:
Research information about the community group , and Discuss and plan some work that you can do with this community group. Note this work could be varied depending on the needs of the community group. Some examples could include:o Assisting with an evento Assisting with fund raisingo Visiting and/or assisting individual group memberso Assisting with a community development workshop
Take sufficient notes during this meeting so that you can complete Part A of the Community Development Participation and Engagement Project template (located at the end of this assessment).
Part B: Work with the community group
For this part of the task you must participate in the planned work. This may be done over one of more occasions. Complete Part B of the Community Development Participation and Engagement Project template.
Remember that overall you must engage with at least three individuals of the community group at some stage during Parts A to C of this assessment.
Part C: Seek feedback and evaluate work
For this part of the task you must:
Seek feedback from three community group members that you engaged with during this assessment task, Use this feedback and your own reflection to evaluate the work that you did with the group.
Use the feedback forms in Appendix A to gather the feedback.You may either ask the community members to complete the forms themselves, or you may do this on their behalf. Give each person the option to remain anonymous if they wish - in this case refer to them as 'Person 1' 'Person 2' etc.
