For this task, you need to identify one financial institution around the world that is of your interest to study. Critically review the impact and implications of this financial institution. An extensive review of academic AND industry literature should be done and elaborated in your coursework.
- These financial institutions can be central banks, commercial banks, hedge funds, etc. They can be institution that is/was doing well or is/was that didn’t perform well.
For example, you can take Lebanon Central Bank that was involved in ‘ponzi scheme’ of lending that has brought the country down to its knee.
- Next, you need to justify why do you choose this financial institution. What is it about this institution that is of your interest?
- Investigate the factors that lead to the performance of this financial institution? Perhaps prolonged interest rates, perhaps political intervention. For example, you are interested in Lebanon Central Bank because the country was plunged into financial crisis. Then you investigate what are the factors that cause this.
- Analyze their financial statement and extract out interesting information from there.
How is the risk management of this financial institution? Are they forward looking or only backward looking?
- What is the latest development of this financial institution? Are they keeping up with digitalization?
- Your view on the future of this financial institution. Is there any red flag? Or is the management and operation in good shape.
