For this weeks discussion board, I decided to discuss the leadership style of Lee Kuan Yew ( often referred to by his initial LKY) (Kurter, 2023). Lee Kuan Yew was a statesman and lawyer who served as the first prime minister of Singapore from 1959 to 1990. He was known as the father of modern Singapore. His leadership turned Singapore from a third world country into an extremely thriving and developed country in just three decades. Although many of his critics regarded his leadership style as authoritarian , the success he achieved during his time as a leader was indisputable and inspiring.

As a leader Mr Yew was known for telling things as they are, a straight shooter and pragmatic. He regarded that quality as a strength, I admire those qualities he possesses as a leader and personally I tend to lead in that way too.

According to Mr Yew, the best thing you can do for your team is realize the truth and speak it when necessary. (Kurter, 2023 ) . He is inspirational to me because advocated for justice, and equality between the different nationalities that formed Singapore. He is truly an inspirational, he stood for the right thing and advocate for those under his guide ( Kurter, 2023)

You can only be a great leader for so long, as Mr Yew believed, great leader plan for their successors. for that reason, many years prior to his departure from his post. Mr Yew was grooming his replacement and assuring that his successor can continue to lead his nation in the right direction. Mr Yew believed that a leader needs to be generous with his knowledge and wisdom and pass it down to future generations. Leaders must strive to groom continuation of an organization's mission and vision rather than ideology center in pleasing and obeying them. (Kurter, 2023)Through this weeks assessment, I learned a lot about myself and the type of leader I aspire to. Obviously there are skills I need to work on to better myself and any team I lead now or in the future.
