Background:
Northcliff Retirement Residence was established in 1980 by parishioners of the local United Church. Originally, a small group of professionals employed by the Church along with a dedicated team of volunteers ran the home. Over the years, the management and operations of the facility became formalized and it now exists at a separate not for profit organization. Ten years ago, the management and board of Northcliff engaged in strategic planning to look 25 years into the future. The environmental analysis showed an increasing need for long-term care facilities because of the aging population in the area. Five years ago the organization secured government approvals to expand the facility and construction has been underway for the past year. The new section of Woodville LTC is set to open in two stages. The first unit of the new wing will open at the beginning of 2023 and the second in January of 2024. As part of the restructuring, Corporate Services will be taken over by the local hospital.
Northcliff currently cares for a total of 100 residents in private, en-suite rooms organized into two wings which each has two units. The new sections will increase the total number of rooms (and residents) to 150 by 2024. Each wing is led by a Manager and each unit has a full-time Coordinator. The resident care staff also includes Registered Nurses, Personal Support Workers, Recreation Therapists, and a Volunteer Services Coordinator. The new wing will be organized in the same manner. The new units will be housing residents with a higher care need than the current units and so will require additional Registered Nurse and Personal Support Worker positions as noted in the assumptions on the following pages. The Residence Services Department provides cleaning, maintenance and food services for the facility. Note the assumptions on the following page. The organization's current structure and staffing are shown in the organization chart and Table 1 on the following page.
