The purpose of the assessment is to gauge competence in MS Project and application across the project management syllabus. Project: Kitchen Redesign Background You have just completed a postgraduate diploma in project management and a home owner has asked you in your capacity as a shop-fitter to redesign/remodel his kitchen. Develop a project proposal for the implementation of this kitchen redesign project. All processes planned for should be finalised within 2 weeks as the home owner plans to move into his new home in 2 weeks. You are required to submit a proposal in the report format provided, outlining how all planning and preparation would be effected. GENERAL PROJECT INFORMATION Project Tasks Team Rates - Design: layout and plan for the kitchen Electrician R150 p/d - Cabinets: style and finish of cabinets Plumber R150 p/d - Countertops: material and colour for countertops - Granite, solid surface, and plastic laminate Purchaser R100 p/d - Flooring: type and finish of flooring for kitchen - tile and wood Tiler R200 p/d - Appliances: refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, and stove for kitchen finishes: stainless steel or painted Countertop Specialist R200 p/d - Tap(s) and Sink: finishes: chrome, stainless steel or porcelain enamel are often used for sinks Cabinet Maker R200 p/d - Lighting: recessed, pendant, and/or under cabinet mounted task lights Graphic Designers R120 p/d NB: Assign resources as much as you can to accomplish all your identified tasks. REQUIREMENTS - All client information required is asked - 50% of marks will be allocated to the proposal component and 50% to the MS Project component which should include the relevant Charts, Tables, Graphs and/or diagrams from MS Project - The report must be submitted in a PDF document - The main body of the report must be no more than TEN (10) pages Report Format Use the following headers (necessary for grading). 1.3 Cost Estimates: Present the specific tasks you will do as a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), and give cost estimates, with sub-totals at each level and total estimated cost. Briefly discuss the estimates, where the costs mainly go, and efforts made to save costs. (20)
1.4 Schedule and dependencies: Discuss the project dependencies and list the tasks on the critical path. Discuss the critical path tasks, and methods used to shorten the critical path. (20)
1.5 Milestones and Deliverables: List and discuss the milestones and the deliverables for each. Be very specific about each milestone, including the project finish milestone. (10)
1.6 Project Control and Risks: -Discuss the general strategy that will be used to manage the project to completion. -Project must have at least two phases. Discuss how they connect to each other, and the milestones. -Discuss why you took this strategy. Summarise TEN (10) most important project risks, and how they will be dealt with if they occur. (20)
1.7 Summary: Briefly summarise, giving the overall project cost, the project benefits as bullet points, and the general strategy. Give the client a list of meetings, with details like who, when and where and estimated times, and desired deliverable.
