Fran often visits her friend Frank in his apartment building. Frank notices the front steps are starting to collapse and brings this to the attention of his landlord, who does not fix them. Fran is worried that she or someone else will fall one day and files a lawsuit immediately. A month later, Frank's falls on the steps and breaks his leg. Frank doesn't want to sue his landlord, but Fran decides that she will do it for him. Shortly after that, Fran falls while visiting Frank. She breaks her leg and is out of work for months. Fran enjoys her time off and doesn't want to go through another lawsuit while recovering. Ten years later she decides she will track down the landlord and sue him for her lost wages and medical bills.
