Francis sells antiques. He has a particularly rare table which is for sale. The price for the table is 17,000. Jefferson speaks to Francis and tells him that he wishes to buy the table. Francis tells him that the table is still available to buy, and that Jefferson should send an email to Francis stating that he wishes to buy it and to ensure that Francis does not sell it to anyone else. The next day Jefferson sends an email to Francis. The email states that Jefferson is delighted to buy the table but that the condition is not as good as what Francis had stated it to be so Jefferson ends his email with the words, Therefore, I am delighted to buy the table for the sum of 15.500 which is still over the market value for the table. Francis replies to Jefferson s email later that same day stating that he was not prepared to accept 15,500. Jefferson replies immediately with a second email and states that he will pay the original asking price of 17,000. Jefferson attends the showroom only to find that the table has been sold to another customer. Jefferson believes that because he offered 17,000 in his second email that Francis should have sold the table to him. With reference to the facts of the above scenario, advise Jefferson whether he is correct.
