Frank is a 25 year old White man who has been referred to you for career counseling. Frank recently lost his full-time job working as a computer programmer. Although Frank didn't love being a programmer, it was important to him to be earning a good income, particularly now that his girlfriend is 5 months pregnant. Frank presents as very hopeless about his job prospects, because "the economy sucks right now." Frank also reports that he is very anxious about the financial obligations he will have once the baby comes; in fact, he has been having panic attacks almost every day whenever he thinks about looking for work, so he often chooses to hang out with his buddies instead. He was prompted to come in to career counseling after a big fight with his girlfriend about his reluctance to apply for jobs.

Part A: How would you approach your work with Frank? For example, what types of questions would you ask him, what interventions might you use with him, and what would your goals for the work be? What challenges do you think would come up in your work with him? Be sure to use the readings/lectures to support your response.

PART B: In your 3^rd session, Frank reveals to you that he did not lose his job in a company-wide layoff. Rather, he was fired after his employer found out that has a felony conviction (drug sale; from 4 years ago) on his criminal record. He has not been in trouble with the law since then, stating that his decision to sell drugs was "stupid and juvenile one-time thing" and that he "learned his lesson." Does this new information change the way you approach your work with Frank? If so, how? If not, why not?

PART C:What considerations would you take into account if Frank revealed that he is a veteran and that his job loss was due to chronic lateness and absences (instead of being due to a felony conviction)?
