Employees usually receive their first training during their first days on the job. This training is the organization's orientation program. The training is designed to prepare employees to perform their job effectively, learn about the organization, and establish work relationships (Wright et al., 2021, p. 223).Organizations provide orientation because employees need to become familiar with job tasks and learn the details of the organization's practices, policies, and procedures. In the navy, we have orientations for all newly reported Sailors. We call it, "indoctrination" vise orientation. It has the same principles and purpose. Our indoctrinations are normally 3-5 days long.

After orientation, the next process is onboarding. Onboarding is aimed to prepare new employees for full participation in the organization (Wright et al., 2021, p. 223). Onboarding is a conscious attempt to get new employees to connect and identify with their employer by encouraging them to gather more information about the company, its history and culture, and its products or services.

Compliance, clarification, culture, and connection are the four stages of the onboarding process. Compliance is to understand company polices, rules, and regulations. Clarification is understanding the job and performance expectations. Cultures is understanding the company's history, traditions, values, norms, and mission. Connection is understanding and developing working and interpersonal relations.
