General Specifications
The organization for which you will be building a topology consists of one campus comprised of two buildings connected by a fibre-optic network: o Business headquarters o Engineering and test The network uses the base IP network address: 10.xx.0.0/16 where xx is the last two digits of your student number. The business headquarters building has the following departments: o Finance o HR o Operations o Customer Service o Business datacenter The engineering and test building has the following departments: o Engineering o Test o Engineering datacenter Staff and Guest WiFi is present in both buildings The headquarters building has the only Internet connection o The network to the ISP is 201.202.xx.48/30 where xx is the last two digits of your student number o The IP address of the ISP router is 201.202.xx.49/30
Task 1 - Topology Build
You must build a topology in Packet Tracer to reflect your solution to the requirements. Note that you will need to complete some of the later tasks to finish this one. Components to use: Edge/Access switches: 2960 Distribution switches: 3650 Using a 3650 is different than we have done in the past when weve used a 3560 for distribution. There are two reasons for that. One is the IOS version is newer on the 3650, which makes the command output more consistent. Second is the 3650 has 1Gbps ports which means the uplinks can be gigabit. Before you configure a 3650, you must power it on. That involves dragging a power supply to the empty slots in the Physical view. Routers: 2911 Endpoints: Generic PCs Requirements: The headquarters must have three edge switches: one dedicated to the business datacenter and two for everything else. The engineering and test building must have three edge switches: one dedicated to the engineering datacenter and two for everything else. Both buildings will have a distribution switch. The edge switches at both buildings will connect to their respective distribution switches using a twointerface bonded channel. The distribution switches will be connected to each other using a two-interface bonded channel. The headquarters building will have a single router, that provides a connection to the Internet, connected to the distribution switch using a two-interface bonded channel. The ISP will have one router with a single interface connection to the headquarters building router. All network device names must contain your initials as they appear on the class list (e.g. BusinessHQSWEdge01-MK). Device names missing this requirement will constitute a major error. All hostnames must match the device names. Endpoints are not required, but you may create what you feel you need for testing to ensure everything works correctly. Screenshots Include one screenshot showing your topology.
Task 2 - VLANs
You must determine the required VLANs and configure them as per the following requirements. A VLAN is required for each department at each site A VLAN is required for Staff WiFi A VLAN is required for Guest WiFi A VLAN is required for the business datacenter A VLAN is required for the engineering datacenter Use best practices for unassigned ports VLAN names must include your initials .Determine what VLANs are needed to meet the above requirements. Configure the VLANs on all switches. Trunk the inter-switch links. Do not channel bond the inter-switch links yet. Other than the datacenter, which is dedicated to a single switch, ensure that there is a minimum of one port assigned to each edge switch for each VLAN of the respective building. Screenshots Include a screenshot from each switch showing VLANs and associated port assignments, and trunking.
Task 3 Spanning Tree Protocol Configure the distribution switches to be the root bridge for the VLANs that are present in their buildings. The distribution switch in the headquarters build should be the root bridge for both WiFi VLANs. Configure all endpoint ports on edge switches to become active as quickly as possible when a device is connected while protecting against Layer 2 loops. Screenshots Include screenshots of each distribution switch demonstrating root bridge configuration. Include a screenshot of a sample endpoint port configuration.
Task 4 Channel Bonding Create two-interface LACP bonded channels from all inter-switch connections and configure VLAN Trunking as required. Screenshots Include a screenshot of each distribution switch showing channel bonding is configured correctly. Include a screenshot of each distribution switch showing VLAN trunking is configured correctly.
Task 5 Inter-VLAN Routing Configure OSPF to provide routing services. Distribution switches must provide IVR for the VLANs for which they are root bridges. The headquarters building distribution switch should be the DR. Note use /24 networks and configure the third octet to whatever you wish for VLAN IP network addresses. Remember that the second octet is the last 2 digits of your student number. Screenshots Include a screenshot of each distribution switch routing table prior to configuring Internet routing.
Task 6 Internet Routing Configure OSPF to provide routing services. The headquarters building router will provide access to the Internet. All VLAN networks should have Internet access. Note use /24 networks and configure the third octet to whatever you wish for any networks you need to achieve this. Configure the ISP router to use the headquarters building router as the default route. I know you wouldnt do that in practice but it will make testing much easier for you. Screenshots Include a screenshot of the routing table from each distribution switch and each router.
