Question 1. By using the aid of diagram, define FOUR factors effecting deflection reference. (CLO2:PLO1:C2)(5marks) Question 2. A reinforced concrete bridge between two building spans 8m, The cross-section of the bridge is shown in Fig 1. The brickwork weighs 18kN/m3, and the concrete weighs 24kN/m3 and the coping weighs 0.7kN/m3. The floor of the bridge has to carry a uniformly distributed imposed load of 1.5kN/m3 in addition to its own weight, For beam A shown in Fig1, calculate and sketch the totak uniformly distributed design loads in kN/m and the total design loads in kN. The beam is simply suppocted at both ends: (CLO2:PLO1:C2)(5marks) Question 3. A simply supported beam I-beam subjected to a uniformly distributed load as shown in figure 2 and beam carrying plaster finishes. Determine the section required using Grade 43 steel and thickness of beam is 16mm. Given E is 205kN/mm2. Use table of properties of Universal beam attached. a) Find shear force and maximum bending moment and determine suitable section required in Universal beam (UB). b) Check the shear capacity and deflection, considering allowable deflection is to be span/360. (5 marks) (CLOI:PLO6:C3)
