Give PrEP a shot

In 2020, the HIV Prevention Trials Network announced results fromGive PrEP a shot, a global randomized study that compares the eectiveness of injections and oral tablets as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to prevent HIV. The study examines whether anexperimental treatmentbased on the injection every 8 weeks of the anti-HIV drug cabotegravir can safely protect people from getting HIV infection at least as well astandard-of-care treatmentbased on a daily oral tablet of another anti-HIV medication commonly known as Truvada.

Overall, the study included 4,494 eligible participants, with two-thirds of the participants being under 30 years of age.
