Given Question:
Summarize briefly your findings in Questions 1-4 in the form of a brief report. In particular, indicate which of the three withdrawal symptoms (more depressive mood, more fatigue, less focus) seems to be the most intense. Refer to the test results in your summary.
My answer:
From out statistical tests, there is sufficient evidence to conclude that being deprived of caffeine raises mean depression scores at = 0.01, raises fatigue scores at = 0.05, lowers focus scores at = 0.05 and insufficient evidence to conclude that the change in the depression scores is different for non-smokers and smokers at = 0.10. This means that caffeine has an effect on depression, fatigue and focus but being a smoker or not does not necessarily affect depression scores for caffeine dependent individuals.
data: Depr_NC and Depr_Caf
t = 5.8577, df = 29, p-value = 0.000001178
data: Fatig_NC and Fatig_Caf
t = 3.8017, df = 29, p-value = 0.0003418
data: Focus_NC and Focus_Caf
t = -3.4747, df = 29, p-value = 0.0008147(largest p-value)
Since our is higher for the fatigue test and focus test and particularly the focus test has the largest p-value, less focus of the three withdrawal symptoms seems to be the most intense. However it is important to note that these results can not be generalized to the whole population of caffeine dependent individuals as the selection of participants in this study was not done at random.
Is my interpretation of the p-value correct?
