Good afternoon,
The below problem was submitted as part of a problem for an assignment. There was a solution on the site for the answer, but they didn't explain it very clearly. Please see below.
The following are our company's annual sales ($ million) data from 2015 to 2021. Use the trend equation to forecast sales for 2025.
Year | 2015 | 2016 | 2017 | 2018 | 2019 | 2020 | 2021 |
Sales $000,000 | 16 | 17 | 25 | 28 | 32 | 43 | 50 |
Using the trend equation;
y = 5.75x - 11573
where, X is the year;
Therefore for 2025, The sales forecast will be;
y = (5.75 * 2025) - 11573
y = 70.75
Therefore the forecasted sales for 2025 will be $70,750,000
I am good with the math, I just don't understand where 5.75 came from and 11573...I can figure it out and the explanation was missing on a separate example. Any help is appreciated. Thank you for your time.
V/r,
Ryan
