Quizzes 14 Johnny is a 27-year-old Caucasian male who has been struggling with addiction for over 11 years. Johnny comes from a very wealthy family. Johnny's mother is a trauma surgeon, and his father is one of the top-paying lawyers in the state of California. Johnny was an only child, and due to his parents' busy work schedules, he was often left in the care of his nanny. Johnny first tried marijuana when he was 12 years old. A few years later when Johnny was 16, he tried heroin for the first time and was hooked. Every day, Johnny was using and continuing to search for that "first high feeling." At age of 19, Johnny's parents sent him to a rehab facility for 9 months. During this time Johnny was able to see that he had an addiction and decided to get clean and sober. Once Johnny was released from the rehab facility, he was only clean and sober for thirteen hours before using heroin again. Johnny's parents soon found out, kicked him out of their home, and cut him off financially. Jonny soon became homeless, and his addiction only got worse. Due to having no source of income, Johnny soon started trading sexual favors for cash and or drugs. Johnny was now using any drugs he could get his hands on. He soon became addicted to fentanyl because it was cheap and easy to get. Eight years later, Johnny's father was driving down the street and saw Johnny at the stop light begging for money. His father was heartbroken by what he saw. Johnny was extremely skinny, his skin was discolored, and he appeared disheveled. Johnny was then checked into his second rehab facility. This time, Johnny's parents wanted to be involved in the process to ensure that Johnny got the help he needed. They wanted to finally see him stay clean and sober. Johnny is reluctant to get treatment but is willing to try. During the intake process, Johnny states, "I am only here because they are making me." Question 1: When working with Johnny, how would you create a positive environment for change? Note: This is a critical-thinking question.
