Government agencies, which are also referred to as administrative agencies, have been called the fourth branch of government. Over time, administrative agencies have acquired enormous influence over our personal and business lives. Agencies such as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the Interstate Commerce Commission, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the Federal Communications Commission are examples. Many government agencies employ thousands of employees and are very expensive to operate.
