Group Assignment 1 (GM): Elasticity (50 points) Purpose In this chapter, you learned about elasticity and how to calculate the measures of the various types of elasticity. The most important elasticity is the price elasticity of demand, which measures the responsiveness of quantity demanded to changes in price. Generally, demand is more elastic if there are many substitutes available, the good is more a luxury than a necessity, the good accounts for a large part of a consumer's budget, and the time period involved is longer. The purpose of this exercise is to illustrate how your group's collective consumption decisions are affected by the determinants of elasticity, to practice calculating and conrming these elasticities measures collectively as a group, and to understand how total spending on a good or service is affected by elasticity. Directions This exercise has two parts. In the first part, you and your group members will ll in a table and calculate and conrm with each other the price elasticity of demand for several goods. in the second part, you will evaluate your decisions and categorize the demand for each good as elastic or inelastic.
