GROUP PROJECT
You and your group are members of the YMCA Board of Directors in Central City, USA. A well-known local business person's will has just been probated and you learn your "Y" has become sole owner of a 320-acre guest "ranch" formerly leased to a church group. There is much elation because of the growing urgent need to provide summer camp facilities for Y youngsters. So, the Board has created, within their own membership, competing teams to solve this situation.
The property seems ideal for a comprehensive summer program. It consists of natural woods and meadows bordering a large (5,000 acre) lake filled with fish and water for boating, (although not heavily or frequently used). The camp facility has several permanent buildings in excellent condition (see inventor list), and good paved roads. The camp site is 31 miles from Central City.
Central City has, like most cities its size (population 75,000), a growing need for recreational programs for underprivileged, single, and working parent families. It is estimated that there are at least 750 children, ages 6-12, who would and could avail themselves of the opportunity to "go to camp" during all or part of the summer. Another 350 children would go to camp if sponsors could be found to pay camper fees.
Your immediate task is to determine the overall cost of the summer camp, so the Y can begin the fund-raising campaign. The theme for this year's camp has not been determined, and the YMCA Board is going to allow each group to suggest the plan/theme for the camp. The Board is not looking for the traditional camp environment. Instead, they want this camp to be unique, one-of-a-kind camping environment
With that in mind, and upon consideration of what facilities are available and will be needed, every detail MUST be planned. You know that school is out on May 24,2024, and commences on August 19,2024 for the fall semester. This provides you 11 weeks, counting the week of the Fourth of July, to conduct camp for any weekly time frame deemed appropriate. Consideration could be given for one, two three, four, five week, or all summer camps dependent on needs and resources.
You and your fellow board members also have learned that your benefactor has left $200,000 in trust, invested at 8% available on the first of May of every year.
Consideration must be given to financing, fees, programs, counseling, dates, use of facilities, insurance, transportation, and other important factors. You MUST develop and present a comprehensive plan of expenses to the overall YMCA Board, considering as many details as possible for presentation and given the camp theme you selected. Each person MUST contribute equally in the presentation to last no more than 15 minutes, (questions not included - I will be timing the presentation),
