The final product will be less than 10 pages of text. There can be supplemental materials in an appendix. This paper will propose a set of suggestions that will make the City of Ames/ISU be more sustainable.

Introductionkeep it short, one page or less. Mostly highlight, what you intend to do. Set limits to the paper. You can go many ways with the paper. Highlight the focus of the project. Maybe its a specific type of end user. Maybe it focuses on one service.

Research. I expect you to do a survey, a series of interviews or focus groups in addition to some basic internet research. To get a better grade on this dimensiontry to focus on why something is happening/not happening. For example, indicating that 75% respondents had no idea that rebates were available is ok but limited. Trying to find out how 25% learned about the rebates is very useful. This will inform your suggestions. As a suggestion, try to put a research summary into a table/graph/chart. Sometimes the end user finds the research very useful. This is very positive. Typically, the more you can explainwhy/howthe more useful it is. 40% of the grade is best on research quality.

RecommendationsThere is no single format for the recommendations to be useful. A grading rubricone size fits allis next to impossible. The recommendations need to be specific, plausible (consider costs in terms of financial and people resources), and are likely to make a significant difference. This entails good problem solving and having a good understanding of the problem. The end user needs to find your information useful. Merry Rankin will have important input into this evaluation. 40% of the grade will be based on the quality of the recommendations.

Finally 20% of the grade is the overall impression. This includes writing style, making links between research and recommendations, and presentation of information.
