Have you ever gone online and compared products before making a purchase? A lot of people do that before they get a cell phone, computer, or car, among other things. Some websites have nice tools that allow you to choose two or more products and then compare them feature by feature. These tools are very helpful for getting a clear picture regarding what each product offers and which one to choose based on a given situation or need. You can also usually find the editor's choice(s) to accompany the product reviews.

In this assignment, you will get to play the role of editor for "Organizational Culture Magazine." There will be just two "products" to compare, but you will get to create a product comparison chart and explanation with your "editor's choice" between strong and adaptive cultures.

Action Items

1. Prepare an editorial, complete with a comparison chart and editor's choice in a Word document.
2. For the editorial, give your readers some background and explanation of strong and adaptive cultures with an example of each type of culture. Compare and contrast the two types of cultures.
3. Use a table format to compare the main features and characteristics of strong and adaptive cultures side by side. Include an example of an organization that you believe fits each feature and briefly justify your examples.
4. Summarize your work by stating which type of culture you favor in particular business environments and why. It may be that you would recommend one of the types of culture for a certain type of situation and the other for other situations. Or perhaps you think one type of culture is always more appropriate than the other. In any case, make your recommendation(s) and explain your choice(s).
