HCA 507 Assignment 2 Part B
You have collected data from several physician practices. Here are the variables:
- ID is simply the sequential identification number for each physician practice.
- PATIENTS measure the number of patients for each physician practice.
- REVENUE measures the annual revenue for each physician practice for 2015.
Please review the single Excel file you have been provided with and complete both the Excel and written questions for the questions below.
Make sure you follow the instructions carefully and include answers for each question. Submit your Excel answers in one Excel file with three tabs (Descriptive, Correlation, and Written answers).
PART I
Frequencies & Descriptives in Excel - Patients (ONLY USE THE PATIENTS SIZE VARIABLE)
- Generate a Descriptive Statistics summary table for the PATIENTS SIZE variable.
- Using an Excel function, generate a fractile analysis at the 35th percentile and 3rd quartile for the PATIENTS SIZE variable.
- Using an Excel function, generate a mean and standard deviation for the PATIENTS SIZE variable.
- Separate the sample into several logical groups based on thePATIENTS SIZE variable. Please use the following bins: 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, and 350.
- Construct a frequency table with the frequencies, relative frequencies (in percent), and cumulative relative frequencies for each group based on the "PATIENTS SIZE" variable.
- The "Descriptors" columns are the labels for each group that you created.
- Show the Histogram table that you used to build your frequency table.
- Calculate the relative frequencies.
PART II
Coefficient of Correlation in Excel - Both Variables (Correlation - Excel Only)
In the PART II tab in Excel, use an Excel function to generate a coefficient of correlation for your sample's two variables (PATIENTS SIZE and REVENUE). Additionally, generate an appropriately labeled scatterplot with a trend line.
PART III
Discussion Questions (complete in the Excel file, but on a separate tab)
- Using your descriptive statistics, describe your sample (only the "PATIENTS SIZE" variable) "in words your grandmother would understand." Include descriptions of your overall sample, including sample size, mean, range, and standard deviation. Be as thorough as possible.
- Describe your sample based on your two factile values, 35th percentile and 3rd quartile for the PATIENTS SIZE variable.
- State whether your sample is skewed based on what you know about the patient size mean, median, and mode.If it is skewed, in which direction is it skewed? What does this tell you about the distribution of the PATIENTS SIZE variable?
- Describe the correlation between the "PATIENTS SIZE" and "REVENUE" variables. Interpret the strength and direction of the relationship, if any, between the two variables. What does this indicate?
