Experiment 2B: Solubility Observation Results Functional Groups: Alkene Hydrocarbons Test molecule: 1-hexene Observations from Solubility Test: When tested with water, two layers formed. When 1-hexene was added to 5% NaOH, two layers resulted. When 1-hexene was tested with 5% HCl, two layers resulted. When 1-hexene was tested with 96% H2SO4 this test resulted in one layer. Due to the observation result that 1- hexene formed one layer in 96% H2SO4, the AlCl3 test was not performed. Test molecule: 1-methylcycolhexene Observations from Solubility Test: When 1-methylcyclohexene tested with water, two layers formed. When 1-methylcyclohexene was added to 5% NaOH, two layers resulted. When 1-methylcyclohexene was tested with 5% HCI, two layers resulted. When 1-methylcyclohexene was tested with 96% H2SO4 this test resulted in one layer. Due to the observation result that 1-methylcyclohexene formed one layer in 96% H2SO4, the AlCl3 test was not performed
