Great post! I agree with you that Ford didn't do what they needed to do in the design phase of the Pinto to execute a reliable product. However, where we differ revolves around Ford's lack of a quality control method. What's disturbing to me is that Ford identified this issue through vehicle testing and still pushed the product out to consumers, along with an optional $11 fee which is worth $85 today (Value of $1 from 1970 to 2023, n.d., para. 1). Charging for a basic safety feature is pretty low when it comes to business ethics, especially for a cheap vehicle that they're marketing to lower income consumers. Now I'm not sure how business or engineering practices were carried out back then but Ford could have benefited from a solid Risk Management Plan and accurately identify/document risks early on in the project to eradicate them before the final product was unveiled (Project Management Institute, 2017, pg. 395). Good luck with the course!
