Hello! I need help with my labs that we do in JASP. Here is one of the questions:
Part 4: A one-sample t-test using JASP
A researcher believes that aromatherapy can relieve stress but wants to determine whether it can also enhance focus. To test this, she selected a random sample of students to take a cognitive test which has an average score in the general population of 77. Prior to the test students studied individually in a small library room with a lavender scent present. Please test her hypothesis that students exposed to lavender scent will show enhanced mental focus and score higher than the general population on this test.State the Hypothesis in words - notice these are directional hypotheses.
16. Null or H0: 77, in words: __________________________________________________________
17. Alt. or H1: > 77, in words:___________________________________________________________
18. Find the Critical value for t (consult t-table, use =.05, 1-tailed, (df =n-1 = ___ )critical t = _________
Open CSV file "Lavender Study" in Excel then read the data into JASP.
Run Descriptive Statistics on the TestScore. Add skew & kurtosis, and a density plot, to check normality.
19. Record the following values for the sample:
Sample size (Valid n) = ______Sample mean = ________Sample SD = _______
Run a one-sample t-test (T-Tests, classical, tests = student, enter test value = 77, Alt hyp: > Test value)
20. Record the values from the table:t = ______df = ______ p = ________
Add Descriptives to the one sample t-test so we can calculate it by hand also.
a. Mean difference (Sample mean - Population mean)= __________________
b. Estimated standard error from JASPSE = _____________
c. t-score by hand (Mean difference / Standard Error)t = ______________________
21. Decision: Is the calculated t-score greater than the critical t-score? Can we reject the null hypothesis? ____
22. Based on these results, what can we conclude about the effect of lavender scent on exam scores?
