Hello, this is an IDS 105 questions. If you can please help answer the 3 questions under Your Initial Post using the chosen discussion of your choice; From a Show You Watched, a Book You Read, or Recent Event in The News. Then if you can help answer the 3 questions listed under Peer Response Posts by using both Peers Responses 1A and 1B . Thank you!

For Your initial post, address the following:

  1. Discuss a situation where communication is important. This can be in your daily life, your work life, or in your academic life. If you prefer, you can also describe a situation from a show you watched, a book you read, or a recent event in the news.
  2. Describe your own personal communication style preferences in the situation you described. For example, do you prefer text communications, via text messaging or email, more than face-to-face conversation or a phone call?
  3. What communication strategies would help enhance communication in the situation you described?

For your Peer Response posts, address the following:

1A) A situation that requires a decent amount of communication is something that I am having to deal with at work this week. I am a transfer to a Walmart Supercenter; however, I worked at the distribution center before I worked at the store. In part of the process to transfer, it got screwed up back in February. So, I have to check my points weekly if I am not scheduled on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Somehow, on the other side of the system, it shows I am still being scheduled at the distribution center those days and being a no-call, no-show. When transferring, the system should drop your previous center's schedule so they can not give you points. In this situation, I have talked to team leads, coaches, and managers, but somehow, I am still receiving these points and having the team leads erase them as I am no longer an associate at the distribution center. In this situation, I may be driving thirty minutes to get to the distribution center to see what is happening on their end of the system to have the issue solved. It would be much better if they could answer the phone and take the situation more seriously than respond quickly and hang up. The solution, if possible, should be to call them to explain the situation on the phone and for them to look into what the issue is and correct it. What would help enhance the communication would be to directly talk to who I need to in the first place with oral communication instead of ten different associates and be able to explain and express how it is an issue without irritating anyone else and solve the problem. I also strongly dislike going places and having to discuss an issue and being unable to discuss more positive things like the weather and how their day is going.

  1. Of the communication strategies shared, what would be the most appropriate strategy for the situation that was discussed? Provide additional strategies or insights that could help your peer improve the strategies they shared.
  2. Based on the situation your peer shared in their post, what other communication strategies could be used in a similar situation in the future, and why do you think these would be helpful?
  3. Based on the situation your peer shared in their post, how could these communication strategies be used?

1B) In a work context, effective communication is crucial for collaborative projects to ensure that team members are aligned on goals, timelines, and expectations. For instance, I recently collaborated with my sales team on a project, where I was tasked with creating mockups for them to present to their clients. In such situations, clear and concise communication is essential to prevent misunderstandings and avoid unnecessary back-and-forth on the same project, thereby fostering a productive working environment.

Personally, I find that a combination of written and verbal communication works best for me in these scenarios. I appreciate the clarity that written communication, such as email, provides for conveying detailed information and references. Simultaneously, face-to-face or virtual meetings are essential for in-depth discussions, brainstorming, and building a sense of unity within the team.

To enhance communication in these work situations, a few strategies could be employed.

Firstly, through verbal communication, project goals, roles, and expectations should be clearly outlined from the beginning. Visual communication is also vital in this context; detailed discussions with samples and references would be helpful for me as a designer to better understand the customer's or sales team's expectations regarding the project.
