In this Analysis part, you will create an Excel worksheet, type in Data, type in formulas, create graph, create trendline, and in the Question part, you will calculate \% error values all in the same Excel worksheet. Analysis Create a new Microsoft Excel worksheet and save it to your OneDrive. Start copying the Data table at cell A5, start typing "Run", hit Tab key, type "y", and continue filling adjacent cells to the right. Use "Insert" "Symbol" "Greek and Coptic" menu item to enter the Greek letter Delta (). When you reach the cell K5, hit Enter key--this brings your selection all the way back to A column and down to row 6 cell. If it doesn't, use your keyboard cursor keys to navigate your selection to A6 cell. Complete copying the data table into Excel. As a shortcut, you can copy the same number to multiple adjacent cells by using a "fill" technique. At this point, your Excel data table should look similar to this. Save your Excel worksheet. If some numbers have too little decimal places, you can increase it. In the Home ribbon (menu), click the Increase Decimal button. Use Excel to plot a "scatter" graph of the range in meter unit versus the release height in meter unit. Remember, the graphs are called y versus x when the y-values are on the vertical axis. The release height is the distance measured from the floor. Remember also to convert the cm unit to m unit. To convert units, create a new column for the converted values. Type " y+h " in cell L5. Hit Enter key. Type "( (m) " in cell L6. Hit Enter. In cell L7, type the following formula literally. =(B7+$D$7)/100 Then hit Enter. Use the fill technique at cell L7 through cell L14. This filling generates different numbers. Do the unit conversion for the release position values (hint: use the formula =B7/100 in cell M7 ). Do the unit conversion for the range values (hint: use the formula =F7/100 in cell N7). To create the graph, 1. Select (highlight) the range of cells that contains x-values (which is column M ) and y-values (which is column N). 3. Insert a Scatter chart without any lines connecting the data points. Make sure the graph is given a title, and that the axes are labelled and include appropriate units. To make those items in the graph, click on a blank space within the graph window. That should display a column of three buttons like this. The "plus" button allows you to select the graph elements that you can display. Choose Chart Title and Axes Titles. You will now add various trendlines (a.k.a. curve fit) to the graphs. To display a trendline, right click on a data point in the graph to display the right click menu. Choose Add Trendline... Before you pick from among the trendline options Excel gives you, make sure you check the boxes that will display the equation for the trendline and also the regression coefficient (which Excel refers as the R2-value). Scroll down and check the boxes for displaying equations and R-squared value. Now try a variety of forms for the trendlines. Carefully examine the fitness of each trendline to the data points. Save your Excel worksheet! After you have completed this, figure out which of these you think best represents how the release height and range are related, and why you think it is best. lestions The physics theory predicts the relationship between the range and the release height to be x=(720h)21y21 Calculate the \% error values (see another document titled Error Analysis) on new column P in Excel, using the reference values as given by the above formula. It is suggested that you calculate the reference values on column O first. Then use the values in column N and O to calculate the % errors.
