Lab 10: Reflection and Refraction Part 2: 1. Use the PheT simulation found at: https://phet.colorado.edu/sims/html/bending-light/latest/bending-light en.html 2. Select the simulation labeled "Prisms." 3. Drag the Convex prism (the 5th prism) to the screen and place it to the right of the source so that the source is pointing straight at the middle of the prism. Select the setting for 5 rays and click on the red button. Take a screenshot, and label the focal point on the screenshot. Measure the focal length (the distance from the center of the prism to the focal point) on the screenshot as well. 4. Move the source towards and away from the prism. How does the focal length change as the source moves closer or farther from the prism? Based on your answer, what determines the focal length for the setup? 5. Now move the source up. How do the refracted rays change? Does the focal length change? Move the source down. How do the refracted rays change? Does the focal length change? 6. Replace the convex prism and instead choose the concave prism (the last prism). place it to the right of the source so that the source is pointing straight at the middle of the prism. Select the setting for 5 rays and click on the red button. How do the refracted rays differ from those you found with the convex prism? 7. Take a screenshot, and trace the refracted rays backward (towards the source) to find the virtual focal point. Label the focal point on the screenshot. Measure the focal length on the screenshot as well. 8. Replace the concave prism and select the circular prism. Take a screenshot and mark the focal point. Measure the focal length as well. Describe what the rays do as they pass through the circle. Which side of the circle is like a convex prism and which is like a concave prism? 9. Summarize what you have learned by doing this lab (300 words minimum)
