Division of labor indicates that people find their comparative advantages and specialized on doing the task they have comparative advantages with. We could compare the opportunity cost of doing A and B, and the one with lower opportunity cost indicates comparative advantages. For example, I worked at Starbucks, and if my colleaguesis more productive in making drinks, and I will be more productive in orderingfor customers, then I should just take orders for customers and my co-worker should focus on making drinks so that we could finish more total tasks in total.
If I take orders and then make drinks when not specialized, then I will not take that many orders. Making drinks distracting me as I have to go back and forth talk to customers and walk back to where I made drinks. Similarly, if my co-workers will also have to do both tasks, he will have less total production as well. In the future, I think it is important for company to make their employees work specialized. If person A is more productive in doing task A, he should focus only on task A, and everyone else need to follow this specializationrule as well. Then, the total production will be maximized.
