Hey Sam Smith! I'm writing to you to update you on your case. I've contacted the paralegal for the defendant to get dates for a settlement conference. We've agreed on December 12, 2018 as the date for the settlement conference at the Ontario Small Claims Court. Do you know what a settlement conference is? It's when the parties get together with their representatives before a small claims court judge to discuss the issues in dispute. It's meant to encourage settlement and avoid going to trial. It's meant to resolve or narrow the issues in the action, expedite the disposition of the action, assist the parties in trial preparation. Pursuant to the Rules of the Small Claims Court, a settlement conference must be held in every defended action. A settlement conference is mandatory for you.
