Henry Mintzberg is a management scientist who came up with the 5 Ps of organizational strategy. The Ps include Plan, Ploy, Pattern, Position, and Perspective (Foss et al., 2021). An institution should have a good organizational strategy based on the above P's (Martela, 2019). A plan is necessary when dealing with different situations because it enables coordination of activities, proper use of resources, and timely completion of tasks. The set plan should be adhered to by following it effectively. A ploy is a strategy of finding out your competitors and trying to be better than them in your endeavors. A pattern is a consistent behavior in work. A position involves finding out where your organization fits within the internal and external environment. Lastly, perspective is having a single point of view to help the organization flourish.

The University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics used the components of Mintzberg's work in the standardization of skills. The hospital is a professional organization that tries to follow Mintzberg's organizational strategy in its operations. The goal of the professional organization is to provide quality services. To achieve this, it has then employed highly trained and competent medics (Martela, 2019). There are also low, middle, and top-level managers who help ensure that the financial resources are well accounted for and there is no embezzlement of funds enabling smooth operations in the hospital (Foss et al., 2021). Besides, the management establishes plans and goals, which are to be followed by all staff in the hospital.

Furthermore, there are many support staff who offer various services like clerical and maintenance services, enabling the execution of day-to-day operations. To achieve its internal goals, the hospital has ensured it has enough resources for the treatment of the sick, and also it has hired competent staff. To overcome competition, the hospital has lowered its cost of treating the sick. In conclusion, the hospital has employed Mintzberg's work by having set goals, a plan to guide its operations, appropriate assignment of duties, and implementing effective and sufficient service delivery to patients.
