here are still businesses that use actual checks. I represented a company in Dora, Alabama a few years ago that owned and operated a couple of convenience stores. The owners of the company were using three banks and floating checks from one bank to one store account from another store account to the other bank. This is check kiting.Check kiting is the illegal process of writing a check off of a bank account with inadequate funds to cover that check. Check kiting relies on the fact that it takes banks a few days (or even longer for international checks) to determine that a check is bad.

look at this case in Texas.https://www.kcbd.com/2019/10/07/female-employees-plead-guilty-conspiracy-commit-bank-fraud-rdag-case/(Links to an external site.)

In this day and age of technology, do you think it would be a better practice to eliminate checks and require electronic transfers only? Would that potentially cause a problem with small mom and pop businesses, sole proprietors, and businesses in rural areas?Any ideas of how banks can be preventive in a potential check kiting scheme? Have you ever "floated" a check - (don't really answer that lol)? Explain your thoughts.
