I have a question on the following definition of "stimulus":

Stimulus is defined as anything that makes any of the five sense organs to function or respond to sensory information (E. Bruce Goldstein).

What does "makes any of the five Sense organs to function" mean here?

Maybe it means the same as "respond to sensory information.

When Goldstein mentions that a stimulus makes the sense organs "function," it implies that the stimulus triggers the sense organs to carry out their respective operations or tasks. It activates the sensory mechanisms within the sense organs, allowing them to perform their intended functions of detecting and processing sensory information.
