For this discussion I would like you to think about the two approaches to the rights of suspects described in this week's learning materials.
They are:
1. Crime Control model - where focus is on catching and convicting criminals
2. Due Process model - where emphasis is on ensuring a fair process to deal with criminal suspects
In Canada we try to seek a balance between these two model. This means that sometimes guilty people go free because of mistakes the police might have made. I would like to know your thoughts on this issue.Full marks will be given to those students who can find an example of an actual court case (not already discussed in the course) in Canada where this has happened.Students are expected to include with their post the website address and actual citation for the case.Any broken links or absence of the website address will result in a lower or failing grade for this discussion.
