Choose an international human rights issue. You may wish to choose one that was presented to you or to follow an area that is of interest to you. Write a brief introduction to the topic. Consider why this area of human rights study resonated with you.

Link your issue to a legal thinking concept: legal significance, legal perspective, change and continuity and interrelationships. For example, you wish to explore a particular treaty and the way in the which the law has impacted the situation (significance) or how it has altered over time (change and continuity). You may also wish to explore the connections between non-governmental organizations, domestic governments and the United Nations in the creation of the treaty or their respective positions on the issue (interrelationships and legal perspective). You can certainly connect to more than one thinking concept. You may wish to review the Legal ThinkingConcepts.

Explain your issue in your own words within the 2 paragraph summary of the chosen international human rights issue. It must include these points of information:

• Which rights are threatened or fragile? Please be specific.
• What are the factors that influence the rights violations?
• Has progress been made in this area? How do you know?
• What are the details of the relevant treaty? What are the strengths and weaknesses of the treaty?
• Who enforces the treaty?
• What is Canada's position and what are our responsibilities?
