In a relatively very small island in the Caribbean, random swab tests based on random samples are being done to control the COVID-19 outbreak. (a) Explain' in brief, how you would select a representative random sample to carry out these swab tests. You should state the type of sampling technique to be considered and provide any additional information about the selection of the sample and/or other characteristics as required. (4 marks) (b) Out of a sample of 50 people who were tested, 20 were diagnosed with COVID-19. Find a 93% condence interval for the proportion of persons wholhave COVE-l9. (5 marks) One of the hospitals found on the island claims that more males than females are eVidencing COViD- 19 symptoms. More swab tests were undergone and preliminary results show that out of 60 males and 70 females, 25 were tested positive. (c) Find a 90% condence interval for the difference between the two proportions for males and females and state whether the claim made by; the hOSpital is justied. (6 marks) The average time taken by two nurses, Alan and Mark, to administer the vaccine to 40 people stood at 4 minutes and 6 minutes per patient respectively. Both standard deviations stood at 4 minutes. This is worrying some of the clinic personnel as they fear that this is leading to delays. (d) Assuming a level of condence of 99%, nd the margin of error for the difference between the average time taken by the two nurses to adniinister the vaccine and comment on its accuracy. (5 marks) (c) Find a 99% condence interval for the difference-between the average time taken by the two nurses to administer the vaccine. . . (1 mark) (t) Find a 90% condence interval for the difference between the average time taken by the two nurses to administer the vaccine. Compare your result with (e) above and comment about the results obtained. . . (4 marks)
