3.Q3 (SWOT): Background Information

Lynette has been running a beauty salon called Your Best in Claremont, Perth for nearly ten years. They offered a wide range of quality services including facials, waxing, general skincare, massages, manicures and pedicures.Their clientele include many young to middle aged women from high income households and business had been good for some time in spite of the waning mining boom. This was largely due to the quality of their services, great location on Stirling Highway and Lynette's popularity in the local community where she had grown up.The reputation of the business among locals was very strong.

By 2019 Lynette had secured a large loan to expand and open another two salons in the Perth central business district. There she was hoping to deliver something similar for the large number of professional women working in Perth in order to expand her business. In spite of her tremendous efforts in training new skilled staff, the going was much tougher than she anticipated as the rents were much higher and there were far more competitors already in operation in that area.Money was tight and she needed to use the profits from her Claremont store to keep the Perth salons afloat; at least until 2022 when the leases for the salons permitted a far less expensive termination.

By early March 2020, it was clear that may not be possible. The government would need to shut down sectors of the economy to prevent the spread of COVID19 and she worried about what it meant for her business.

Q3: SWOT analysis (situational analysis) for this business using the background information given and your knowledge of recent events and news.
