Hi, I submitted my proposal numerous times and my professor has not accepted it. My professor is stating it is more of a lit review and not a content analysis. I am confused as to what I am doing wrong and was hoping I could get my proposal edited. I asked multiple times and have not been able to find an answer on coursehero. In which way would I change this to be considered a qualitative content analysis. Can you please provide examples for each category.
Background
This research paper aims to address high crime rates among Canadian youth by determining
whether or not mental illness is at the root of this issue. The question of how pre-existing mental
illnesses contribute to youth violence is answered through a critical appraisal of existing literature. Through an examination of various sources, several themes are identified in
terms of factors leading to youth offending, including personal victimization, poverty, and
substance abuse. Thus, it is determined that mental illness does have a causal connection
to youth violent offending. It is also identified that the risk of offending is heightened when an
individual has a dual diagnosis. Specifically, substance abuse problems occur simultaneously with any other form of mental illness significantly increasing the risk that an individual will offend. Furthermore, important risk factors for a dual diagnosis are identified, as well as preventative and protective measures.
Research Question
The purpose of this study is to uncover what are the common themes and patterns in the ways that pre-existing mental illnesses are discussed in research on youth violence in Canada. Through this, early intervention and treatment may be used to prevent criminal activity and/or reoffending. The research questions that will be addressed are the following:
Why do pre-existing mental illnesses contribute to youth violence?
Are certain mental health problems linked to specific subcategories of violent offending?
Method
The method chosen for this research will be content analysis.
Research Design
This study would be conducted via content analysis of pre-existing literature. More specifically, existing studies have been related in some aspects to the research question itself. There was no need for participants, as the information being obtained will be confirmed through an extensive search process. Furthermore, due to discrepancies with individuals, a content analysis was best suited for the study. This created the opportunity to look at differences, and gaps with a broader range.
Literature Review
The foundation of this research paper will be based on the findings of various studies, each that applies to the question. Then, there will a summary that follows for each of the studies, with an emphasis on key findings and the relevance to the research paper study.
Data Source
To answer the research question mentioned, both the KPU library and Google Scholar will be searched. I will be looking at sources and articles that have been published within the last 10 years to help develop the possibility for different answers. There will be a further breakdown of how articles were selected.
Ethical Considerations As for any ethical considerations, there aren't many as there will be no participants in the research. The one ethical consideration there possibly can be is the information obtained being outdated. To maintain accuracy and avoid the use of any out of date the evidence will be supported with specific quotes from the findings
