Hi, I would like to ask, I have a data

the variable is Earnings and Production (find the correlation coefficient), both are quantitative but Production is not normal based on Shapiro Wilk whereas Earnings is normal.. we still use spearman? or Pearson?

This is the explanation for spearman correlation coefficient: When the variables are not normally distributed or the relationship between the variables is not linear, it may be more appropriate to use the Spearman rank correlationmethod.

how do we know if the variables are linear or monotonic?

Thanks
