Hi! I'm Olivia. I'm a 1st-year student at WCC, where I am majoring in business administration. I've worked a lot in the service industry, and I'm excited to move toward an area more focused on business. The three reasons I am taking this class are to improve my communication skills, strengthen my interview skills, and learn how to create powerful and compelling presentations. Communication Skills How we communicate with each other is important. Conversations happen now online more than ever. I have found the way we convey information to each other is just as important as the information itself. With so much of our lives taking place online, learning the appropriate way to communicate with others through words on a screen now seemingly takes precedence. Tone matters, especially in a work setting, and this class will be the perfect way to learn how to convey that over text. Interview Skills I feel as though I'm not alone when I say I'm always a little tense for an interview. Regardless of where they are conducted, or how the hiring manager acts, I always feel like I might do something incorrect. This leads me to the second reason why I am so excited about this class. I would like to be able to walk into any interview I may face in the future and greet it with confidence, rather than nerves. Compelling and powerful presentations Though I love talking to people and telling stories, I have found presentations to be a weak spot of mine. My hope for this class is that I will learn how to be a true presenter. A speaker who captivates and engages the audience. Information is important, but what's the point if no one is listening? There are many aspects to this class that I look forward to. Above all else though, I'm most excited to be a better presenter, a better communicator, and a better interviewee. These are skills that I feel are essential to a successful career in business.
