Interview a technical support person. Locate a technical support worker at your school, your work, or a local company and set up an informational interview. Ask the following questions to the technical support worker:
1. Using the categories of end users in Figure 1-2, how would you describe the users you support?
2. What types of software applications do you need to know in order to support users?
3. Do any users or applications present particularly difficult problems for you as a technical support worker? (Ask for a description of some typical problems.)
4. Does the organization that employs you have policies on software piracy, invasion of privacy, and virus protection?
5. Will cloud computing affect your job, and in what ways?
6. Can you provide a copy of your position description?
