Hi there,
I need help writing my literature review first two paragrapghts based on my introduction:
Ive attached my references needed for in text referencing.
Hypothesis: It is hypothesised that students are more likely to take the stairs when looking at the social focus sign compared to the health focus sign.
Aim: The aim of this study is to investigate whether the two signs influence people's likelihood of engaging in social norms.
Intro:
Social norms have proven to be a powerful influence on human behaviour. A large body of research has demonstrated that highlighting descriptive social norms, which convey what is commonly done by others, can promote healthier choices more effectively than messaging focused solely on health benefits (Robinson et al., 2014). The goal of this literature review is to synthesize and evaluate recent studies comparing the impact of social norm vs. health-focused prompts on physical activity behaviours. Encouraging stair use is one area that has seen meaningful interventions driven by social influence. Several experimental studies have directly tested signs emphasizing different motivators for stair climbing. In one case, Collins and colleagues (2019) found university students were more likely to purchase vegetables in campus cafeterias when reminded that doing so aligned with peers' purchasing habits, versus a health promotion message alone. Similarly, Thomas et al. (2017) reported descriptive social norm signs led to greater selection of vegetarian options in workplace canteens relative to a control condition providing no additional information. Guichard et al. (2021) observed higher rates of vegetable purchasing in response to norms-based prompts in two university dining halls versus a control group. Taken together, these findings indicate social norms may resonate more strongly with individuals and drive healthier decisions over clinical-style health recommendations. The current review aims to build on this work by surveying additional recent literature comparing social vs. health appeals specific to stair usage behaviour.
- In your review of the articles you also need to watch the flow of your argument. Remember you are trying to build up an argument for the need for further research in this area, which will be stated in the final paragraph (see below). That is your research study, so don't propose something that you can't do!
