QUESTION TWO Political finance Ruling parties in electoral authoritarian regimes have access fo considerable financial resources to use towards their political goals, one of the key reasons they are able to maintain power. This access is often guaranteed by the laws and institutions governing political finance: broadly, all money earned or spent by parties and candidates during and apart from electoral campaigns (Norris and Es 2016). But the ability of ruling parties to structure political finance regulations in their favour, and to subvert or ignore regulations when necessary, does not insulate them from political crises and pressures to reform issuing both from within the party as well as outside. Sebastian Dettman & Edmund Terence Gomez (2019): Political Financing Reform: Politics, Policies and Patronage in Malaysia, Journal of Contemporary Asia, DOI:10.1080/00472336.2019.1571218 Critically evaluate the statement by highlighting the need to regulate political financing from legal and political perspectives.
