Organizations need to be managed effectively in order to perform at the optimum levels. Management entails a number of functions which include planning, organizing, coordinating, controlling and staffing. Planning involves thinking and organizing future activities that are necessary for achieving desired goals. This includes making important decisions such as investment decisions that will facilitate organizational operations. Organizing involves putting certain measure in place to achieve desired goals. This could include identifying those factors that are necessary for operations. Coordination involves organizing these factors so that they can work together harmoniously in order to achieve desired goals. Lastly, all organizations needs labor resources to achieve its goals. This is achieved through staffing. It involves recruiting, training and allocating duties to the staff to facilitate operations. Managers must apply all these functions in the management efforts in order to lead organizations more effectively. Learning Statements: I have learnt that in order to deliver an effective speech you need to have extensive knowledge about the topic. I have also learnt that one should be precise and to the point when giving a presentation on businesses topics. I have also learnt it is advisable to understand your audience before delivering a speech. Statistics is one of the fundamental concepts in mathematics and quantitative analysis. It involves collection and analysis of numerical data normally in large numbers. It is applied for purposes of inferring proportions as a whole represented by a sample. It is very useful in learning from data through measuring, controlling and communicating uncertainties. It is therefore essential not only in mathematics but also other scientific courses and societal advances courses. Solar energy is a concept discussed in natural sciences such as physics, geography and many others. It used to refer to the radiant energy that is emitted by the sun. This type of energy also referred to as solar power can be used in the production of electricity. The source of power has a number of advantages which include being the cleanest and most abundant source of energy. It is also a renewable source of energy and therefore the cheapest source of energy when harnessed. Learning Statements: I have learnt that we should be knowledgeable about other topics that affect our lives even if they are not in our area of specialization. I have also learnt that we should consider gaining knowledge in mathematics and natural sciences since the topics in these subjects are applicable in almost all areas of life. I will discuss the concepts of immigration. Immigration refers to the act of people moving from their country of origin to another country where they plan to permanently settle as citizens of the native country. It could be illegal or legal immigration. Legal immigrants go through the registration procedures of the native country and are legally given citizenship of that country. In illegal immigration however, the immigrants fail to follow the laid down procedures and end up as undocumented immigrants in the native country. This has become a menace in most western countries who are recording a rising number of immigrants each year. The governments of the affected countries however are setting up policies to control or reduce cases of illegal immigration in to their countries. In many cases, immigration has been reported to be the source of racial discrimination since the natives are sometimes intolerant to the immigrants. Learning Statements: I have learnt I should avoid discriminating against immigrants because not all immigrants are illegal. Secondly I have learnt to appreciate immigrants because they contribute to the cultural diversity of a country. Lastly, I have learnt that one of the root causes of racial discrimination is immigration. Organizational culture comprises the values and behaviors that make the social and psychological environments of an organization to be unique. For instance, some organizations prioritize employ satisfaction in order to motivate them to direct all their efforts towards achieving organizational goals. This is very essential since employee motivation is a determinant of employee performance which significantly affects organizational success. Organizational structure refers the hierarchal arrangement of levels of authority, lines of communication, rights and duties of participants in the organization. In organizations where the structure is well outlined, every member of the organization understands the authority, roles and responsibilities which contribute to optimum employees' performance. Organizations comprise of different individuals from diverse backgrounds. This gives rise to existence of diverse cultural backgrounds. Managers should acknowledge these diversities since they affect the performance of employees. For instance, employees who believe performing certain tasks is wrong in their culture should not be given such tasks because they will not perform them at their optimum levels. Organizational are made up of people who behave in a unique way. These people however must work together to achieve the goals of the organization. In many cases, employees have been noted to form groups that help them to effectively perform their tasks. Managers should encourage this behavior since it motivates employees to perform better. Organizations are also using communication stools such as mobile phones and others to facilitate communication.
