High Specific Heat Capacity and Heat of Vaporization Gather the following: 2 equal-sized beakers, one with 10-20 ml of water, and the other with the EXACT SAME volume of Ethanol (CH.0) (small beakers are better), Ensure the liquids are the same temperature to start. Place each beaker on the SAME hot-plate. Begin heating the liquids, keeping track of the temperature of each liquid at regular time intervals. Record your results below. A table and a graph may be useful. Note how long it takes each beaker to reach it's own BOILING POINT. Also note how long it takes each liquid to EVAPORATE COMPLETELY. ANOTE: Once the liquid has evaporated, REMOVE THE BEAKER!!! Record your results below as you see fit. (I /10) 3. What was the difference between water and alcohol in terms of time to reach boiling, and time to evaporate? Explain this difference using hydrogen bonds and electronegativity. (K /10) 4. Explain how this quality of water would be useful for an athlete, or someone in the desert. (K/5) /35 Inquiry /12 Communication Knowledge /10
