Task

When you receive thereusableequipmentinthedecontaminatingarea, youarerequiredtochooseatray of instrumentsandthenfollowworkplacepolicy/AS/NZSStandardsforcheckingandpreparingequipmentforcleaning.Allkey pointslistedbelowmustbeincludedandexplained.

Step1

• Check hands forcuts priorto donning gloves
• Ensure PPE is selected and correctlyfitted
• Follow safework practices and standard precautions
• Set up work areain preparation forcleaning
• All appliances forcleaningare checked and prepared foruse

Step 2

• Check instruments /equipment against relevant returned checklist
• Sort items accordingto the required cleaningprocess
• Inspect and dissembleitems
• Follow correct techniques for washing RMD following manufactures instructions
• Cannulated items areflushed usingbrush,waterand airgun and then inspected to ensurelumen is unobstructed.

Step3

• Check washer/disinfectorfor correct operation andprepare foruse
• Follow correct loadingtechnique and configureload forsafehandling
• Operatedisinfection equipment safelyandcorrectly

Step4

• On completion cycle, sign off as required and record results following workplacepolicyand procedures
