Homework (see instructor and schedule for due date):
1) Describe the 3-door problem to a friend, acquaintance, family member, fellow student. What is their answer?
Do they believe Marilyn? Can they (and you) explain why? (Be polite.)
2) Devise an experiment with or without using a computer to determine the answer. The experiment should be
in 2 parts. In part 1, the person picking the doors does not change their minds when the door with the goat is
revealed by the host (no switching allowed). In part 2, the person picking the doors takes Marilyn's advice and
switches every time. Record data for each part. Include the number of times (and percentage) the contestant is
correct and the total number of trials. (I recommend at least 15 to 20 trials or more for each part.) In both parts,
you will be the host(you know where the car is; you know what door to show the player).
How many data points do you need for the test to be valid?
How are you going to setup the experiment?
What equipment do you need? (cups, cards, coins, C++ program, etc.)
How do you generate a random number? (dice, C++ program, etc.)
Submit a short report (typed; 1-2 pages or less ) with recorded data included. Include header and title. Explain
how experiment was setup and executed. Include background of participants (nothing personal). Include table of
results (data) for both parts. Include any reactions from friends. Any digital photos of experimental setup should
be included. If you created a C++ program to help with the experiment (such as create the random numbers or
record the experimental results, etc.) then include the C++ program in the report. Explain in a few sentences if
the experiment was successful and why. (This is an individual homework, not a team homew
